Fever Dream (2026)

Fever Dream (2026)
Choreography: Marisa f. Ballaro
Music: Original composition, Hippocrates Cheng
Full work: 9.5 minutes

A quirky trio unfolds as three formally dressed dancers in shirts and ties move in tight, angular phrases. Mirroring the musical structure of Hippocrates Cheng’s score, the choreography builds through repetition and variation. Gestural motifs and playful interactions with their ties evolve into lifts, weight-bearing exchanges, and moments of tension held between bodies and fabric. Though the dancers move as a cohesive crew, each reveals a distinct persona and signature style. As the piece progresses, costumes loosen—ties come off, shirts unbutton—and the trio pushes toward transformation, searching for a new state, new characters, and a sense of transcendence beyond their formal beginnings.

“‘Fever Dream’ lives in a world of gesture, stride, and specificity. The trio wear ties, long-sleeved collared white shirts and long, gray dress pants, creating a business-like appearance. And yet, though the work begins on a more serious, staccato note, it morphs into a more playful, buoyant atmosphere as the artists skip, swing, and even shimmy through the space.”
